A week or so ago Denise wrote to ask if I could send her a couple of my articles which I had published several weeks ago. She has been collecting them for quite a while. I am very pleased to know that people are able to use them. I told her that I would be happy to send them to her and did.
After I gave it some thought, it occurred to me maybe other people would like to have copies of DoubleClicks.info. You can easily print the pages you are viewing with your browser. Depending on the browser you use, the control may be the “Ctrl + P” key combo, some will permit it by right-clicking in the middle of the page and then selecting Print from the menu. There may also be other ways. You can check your browser and see.
Using one of the above, there could be items printed that you do not care about seeing on the page. Most likely you will get a print out of the menus, navigation items, advertisements. graphics and more. You could also choose to print to a PDF file or possibly some other format. You may or may not have experience with those formatting file types; it could become confusing.
What do you do if you just want a clean copy of the words that are informational on the web page? No graphics and other “junk” just the facts. First, you could use your mouse and copy the text you need. Next, you could open your text edition, like Microsoft Word or NotePad, etc. and paste it in. Then you could save the file and have your copy. But that is sort of a hassle and you may still have items from the website’s page that you do not want to keep.
One interesting solution I mentioned last year in passing is, “Print Friendly & PDF.” This browser add-on is available for almost all browsers. PF (my abbreviation) is quite a nice way to print a web page. It does a really nice job of taking any webpage you want to read, emailing or saving for informational purposes and “redesigning” it so that it will only include what you want to read, see or send.
To use it you will need to install the add-on in your browser. Then when you are on the page you want, click the extension’s button and the enchantment begins. It will open a new window on top of the original page which generates a “clean” page. It will not have advertisements, menus or extraneous graphics. It will still have the related graphics that are part of the information in the article or recipe. All of the unneeded distracting, non-related junk on the page will be gone. If there is something you want to remove, whether a graphic or even text, you can mouse over the item and click to delete it. If you make a mistake you can easily click the undo button and put it back.
It then gives you the choice to print it, create a PDF or email the file to someone. I personally like to save it as a PDF file then email if from my own email account. It is an excellent app for people who like to collect information from the web.
Visit, “printfriendly.com” to see the site and find more information.
