The AI Time Machine: How I Successfully “Time Traveled” Back to the Summer of ’74
Can AI actually act as a time machine? I recently dug into a shoebox and found a tiny, faded photo strip from a 1974 carnival—back when my wife and I were just 19 and tanned!
I decided to put Google’s Gemini (and its graphics tool, Nano Banana) to the test to see if I could “modernize” these black and white memories. The results were pretty incredible. With just a few simple instructions like “sharpen” and “colorize,” the AI produced a vivid, realistic version of us from 50 years ago.
It even got the shirt colors spot on, and after a quick correction to fix my eye color from brown to blue, the final image was perfect. It’s amazing what these new AI tools can do for our old “shoebox” finds!
