I had a little problem a few weeks ago. It was nothing earth shattering, no trauma, not a disturbance in the force, only a hassle with an Android app I purchased. Now the real killer…it was all my fault.
I have used a free application on my Android phones/tablets for a long time. However, being free I did not get all of the benefits of the full-paid program. I decided since I liked the app and had used it for quite a while I would purchase it. Yes, me spending money on an app, scary!
The app is called “AniPet Aquarium” by AniFree.com and you can download it on Google Play (bit.ly/anifree). The app is live wallpaper for your Android device and basically places an active saltwater aquarium on your device’s screen. You can set up to 20 different fish in your tank and choose from 180 species. You can feed the fish, set it to whether they die or live if you forget to feed them, breed baby fish, etc. Being the aquarium lover I am it is a very enjoyable little diversion during the day and it looks great.
Now on to my issue. When I went to download the paid version and paid the big price of $1.99 (yes, the prices for most apps are not that bad) I unintentionally downloaded the wrong app, “AniPet Aquarium HD”. I went on happily about my business setting it up. However, it did not work as expected or as the free app had in the past. It would not run as wallpaper but only as a separate program, which was not what I wanted. I knew the Google Play store has a money back guarantee that I thought lasted an hour from the time of purchase. When I went to get my money back I found that the time period was only 15 minutes, which I had exceeded by 35-40 minutes in testing the app and figuring out I had the wrong one.
Now I know it was only $1.99 but that could get me a nice pastry so it was important for me to get it back or to use it the way I had originally intended.
I learned two interesting and rather nice things. First, I contacted both Google Play and AniFree via their links on Google Play, and told them my story about my mistake and being over the 15 minute limit.
Google got back to me within an hour and sent the refund within another couple of hours; adding it back to my account. After that had occurred AniFree got back to me and said they were sorry and that they would refund my money, too.
I quickly emailed AniFree back and told them Google had already refunded the money but that I would be happy to buy the correct one. I did and all was well. So I enjoyed great customer service from both Google and AniFree. In this day and age (gee, I sound like my dad) it is hard to find really good customer service especially considering the price I was paying.
I highly recommend this app if you like aquariums. You can visit anifree.com to see some of their other interesting applications for Android. I also cannot compliment both companies enough for their service! Thanks, Google and AniFree!
