Since 2014 I have written about and several times mentioned a browser add-on called Mighty Text (mightytext.net). Then just this last March, I wrote about another one called TextTo (textto.io) which is now known as Send Leap (sendleap.com). They both continue to function well; however, there is another and possibly better kid on the block.
First, what do these various apps do for you? They work on Android devices with your PC and are fairly simple. These add-ons allow you to hook up to your phone and send text messages from your computer. They all work with your Android device and your PC or MAC. Of course, I doubt Mac users would use it. All Mac devices including iPhones and computers come with iMessage. iMessage is basically the same but it is already built into Apple devices.
The ability to text from my phone makes it very convenient for me. Most likely for you too if you get texts from time-to-time when you working in your office or on your computer and get a text. Using these apps you do not have to pull out your phone and type a response. Besides, I know you cannot stand using that miniature keyboard.
Instead, you can simply type on your computer’s large convenient keyboard while reading the messages on your monitor. It works in the browser and also gives you popups when you get a text if the browser is open.
But now to the new kid in town. Finally, Google/Android has stepped up to the plate. They now offer a website, not a browser add-on, that you can text from. It is “Messages for web” which in my opinion is an excellent boring name. It works much better than the two mentioned above. Even though they were good this was designed by the designers of the Android operating system so it works much more smoothly.
Also, it is not an add-on but an actual website you visit to get “connected.” Open your browser and go to “messages.android.com.” Remember there should be no spaces in that URL. It will work with any modern browser; however, you do need to set it up before you can use it.
The five steps to set it up are; 1) Go to https://messages.android.com. 2) I suggest you flip the “Remember this computer” button on the lower-right to turn it on. 3) On your phone open your Android Message app. 4) Tap the “More” button in the upper-right corner. 5) The final step is to scan the QR code with your phone (screenshot below – blurred for privacy). After this, the computer screen will clear and you will see all of your current messages.
You can now text from your computer. All of the messages will sync between your PC and Android devices. So, if you delete a message or start a message in one place it will be duplicated on all of your connected devices. If you have an Android tablet you can duplicate the process to set that up.
There are several things you can do with your messages but I suggest you play around with it and see how it works. You can even add emojis, stickers and attach most file types. Enjoy!
