I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year since we last talked. I wanted to say, "Thanks!" to all of you readers who support the "Double Click" column by reading and writing. It is very much appreciated. Please keep it up. I always enjoy hearing from you.
So it is that time of year again when we review all of the sites I have mentioned during the previous year. As always, have fun remembering, discovering, or rediscovering all the info! If you prefer to click on links and not type all of these, visit the DoubleClicks.info site and click away.
If the site addresses are too long to type I have shortened them using the "bit.ly" app which I have discussed before. All of these sites should be free (or have a free version) unless they have an upgrade plan on their sites. Without further ado…here they are in their order of appearance with short descriptions of each.
- Google Play – This is the Android app store for all Android devices.
- Amazon’s Android app store – Sign up here and get a free app every day.
- 101bestandroidapps – Where new Android apps are released by developers before they are officially approved by Google.
- Key Ring – Replace all of those discount/membership cards on your key ring with this app.
- Department of Homeland Security – Come on you know what this is.
- Google Latitude – Keeps track of your movements around the map. Check in and review sights along your travels.
- Weather sites – wunderground.com, weatherforyou.com, intellicast.com, noaa.gov, accuweather.com. Some of the more popular weather forecasting sites. Accuracy may vary.
- Weather Spark – An excellent weather site for forecasting, graphs, historical and other weather info.
- Google Cloud Print – Connects your printers to the web so you can print from just about anywhere on the web.
- Dropbox – Sign up with this link for some extra storage for files from your computer to the cloud. (Favorite)
- Google Voice – A fantastic addition to your Android phone. Control who, when, where and many more features that your phone cannot do by itself. (Favorite)
- Google Alerts – Set up alerts to be emailed to you when information hits the internet.
- iGoogle.com – A great Google homepage, which I will miss since they are shutting it down on 11/1/2013.
- Google Reader – Another great app/site from Google, a new aggregator (or newspaper) you set up yourself with syndication feeds from around the globe.
- Barnes & Noble – Oh come on, you know what this is too.
- Gmail – In my humble opinion this is the best email program available today; however, another is coming up fast, IMHO. Check it out in next week’s column.
